Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, many of them based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and later settled in Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his state brought many people to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared the following: John Denver was by far one of the top artists who represented Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame to be inducted into the hall. To many, Denver is the symbol of Colorado. On my trips I've had the pleasure of meeting people from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell people you're from Colorado The first thing they'll say is Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear an early version and knew it was going to be one of the Top 10 hits. Danoff recorded the track just a few days later when he performed it in front of the awe-inspiring crowd on the streets of Washington D.C.
